History
Built in 1801, the building has long since been a staple in the community. The Barn Door Tavern was originally a millinery (and to save you the google search, a hat maker), then became the town Firehouse, then an art gallery, now a local watering hole. We seek to enrich the community and create a space where people can engage with each other and revel in the beauty of simplicity.
"The Barn Door Tavern: The Coolest Bar You Have Never Heard Of"
"...even if you don't live in Essex. It's one of the friendliest bars I have ever visited and has the feel of Colonial America"
"Came in here soaking wet on my bicycle and got a beer, hot Cup of Noodles, and friendly conversation with the whole bar. Perfect place to spend time before the ferry."
"Wonderful atmosphere and quick service. The view is amazing."
